Happy Black History Month!

Regardless of when you're reading this blog post there's evidence in the world that Black History is currently being made.

Since the beginning of time, literally (HI ADAM & EVE), people rich in melanin were on earth so to attempt to pack all the accomplishments in 28 days is almost insulting. However, I do know the history of how Negro History Week was started and then expanded to what we all know as "Black History Month" therefore I salute the founder, Dr. Carter G. Woodson for fighting for the people.

With that being stated, I like the approach similar to Morgan Freeman who during an interview (with a white Jewish man) spoke on the topic of BHM. Mr. Freeman (look up how he got his last name) asked the interviewer "do you want a white history month? and the interviewer said no to which Mr Freeman responded "me neither".. That perspective to me explains it perfectly.

Do you celebrate Black History Month if you are not of Black descent? What does Black History Month mean to me you may ask?! To me, it means a time for the world (we'll at least America) to stop for a moment to acknowledge the contributions, achievements, inventions, and accomplishments of African-Americans. I would therefore like to take this opportunity to suggest that we expand our thinking by knowing our history. Prior to 1492 there were tribes living and thriving on this land and many would be surprised to know how many migrated from Africa, freely by choice. The indigenous communities are by far the most unprotected and disrespected people who continue to show the world their strength, love and peaceful nature while continually fighting to protect earth. Major corporations have a debt to pay to them. I digress.

My hope is that Black History Month becomes less of a calendar placeholder and more so of a reminder that we (Black people) have NEVER been the minority. My faith has made me to know that there's no going back to times past and to focus only on moving forward because the latter days shall be greater than the former days. (Job 8:7) Amen.
